humming 3am tunes
earphones plugging me oblivious
while the rest of the world is drunk and deaf
snoring away the night

turned sideways for comfort,
i whispered a loving goodnight.
�thankyou;� murmured without remembrance.

when i�m alone with myself, i can pretend
that it is more than when it began

but the truth told
is the status quo
i cannot escape.
tears extinguishing ashes on the sidewalk
