the icescraper awaits

the sideways slant
darkened the streets
and sent blinded cars
swaying

the curb was a bumper
an aide to the non-failure
(stopping)

i watch the aching winter
fall with grace
and think of summers
and the left coast

where would i be
if i ignored the voices
and the potential perils of takeoff?
what if i ran away
and released the claim?

i would never, nor would i be accepted
open arms to love
it just isn't the way of that world

i tug at the collar of my turtleneck sweater
and remember who i truly am
