anticipating -

until sleep pulls sheets over eyes

and the fan whirrs its intoxication

the same song, every night:

shhhh.

like some flushed secret you're afraid of --

but i'm not.

i'm different that way.

but you knew that...

knees bouncing, hands shaking

ears like shells open -- ready

to hear the song engraved on my heart,

flooding through my bloodstream
