insects splattered;
popped blisters
on the windshield

amber waves of grain
parched from drought �
i hope this land
(that�s made for you and me)
is being put to good use

i am crying cigarette ashes
cursing at the bob-and-weave
mind tricks of sleep deprivation,
mileage tabulation,
un-requietation,
and the inevitable weight gain of a road trip,
traveling �cross the fast-food nation
