shifting to sit
blanket relaxed
faking the calm under the
hooded sweatshirt

they're the words
claiming responsibility
but it wasn't you
still you swoop in after the fire

my twinge of guilt
intent
fury of hidden-selfish
but agreeing just the same

the drums and soaring voice
tell me that i'm in the wrong
step back, step back
and fall asleep to the sound of the new songs
